A crafty chat with - demoncherry

Hello! Tell me who you are and what your craft is!
I am Cheryl and I craft everything! My main ones are crocheting and cosmetics.

How did you get into it and how long have you been doing it?
I started doing cosmetics in 2002 I used to work for a cosmetic company in bournemouth called bomb cosmetics. I restarted again once I qualified as a complementary therapist about 3 years ago. I use my knowledge of aromatherapy to make unique soaps, lipbalms and other toiletries. I started crocheting last October and I learnt through youtube videos.

What difficulties have you found as you progress?
With cosmetics I had to shelf it temporarily due to becoming pregnant. Many of my essential oils are not safe to use! Also I found alot of trial and error in regards to using colours. I tried out many types and found certain ones worked better than others. In crocheting I found rather quickly I needed to learn how to read a written pattern in both UK and USA terms.

What/who are your inspirations?
shelldevil, joannastar and yourself ( )are the reasons I crochet I am a big fan of rakjpatterns, bobwilson and bacacreations. I have no real inspiration for the cosmetics, I love using them I am a fan of Lush and wish to create something a little different.

What craft would you like to see get more attention?
Cosmetics! There are some fab artists on DA that create scrummy cosmetics! For example ADarkDezine A-Little-Kitty shiricki

I am on ravelry as demoncherry and you can order soaps and other crafts directly through DA if you so wish.

Are there any other crafts you'd like to give a try?
I am getting into wire wrapped jewellery presently.

What piece are you most proud of in your gallery?
My elephant!

What is your favourite thing to make?
Lipbalms and toys.

Got any words of wisdom/hints and tips for other Deviants?
Try out everything! I did, sometimes a craft isn't for you and then bam! You find one that you enjoy! I never thought I could even do crocheting until I tried it.

Money is no option - what craft related item would you splash out on?
If money was no option I would buy the following items
Silver and gold art clay plus the furnace oh and whilst we are at it I would take up glass craft too. Oh and get more gold and silver wire the real stuff not plated. Also a complete essential oil kit like I had in college. With absolute oils.

You recently popped a baby out, are you planning to craft her toys and clothes?
Yes In fact I have already crocheted 2 cardis, dolly shoes, hats and a jingly star. More is to come!

You have tested a few patterns, which has been your favourite?
My fave test pattern was the skyrim hat.. It took so long to make but it was so worth it.


If you could open a shop selling your crafts what would you name it?
Plans will happen for a shop.. A joint one with hubby. We shall name it Elysium Arts.
