Spotlight on... by UnicornReality

An interview with...Tasastock

1:First off - what inspired you to start a stock account?
Hmm, well I started using a lot of stock from the stock gallery, there was a couple where I couldn't get exactly what I wanted or needed at the time for a certain art project of mine, so I thought, why the hell not? I've got loads of photos just sitting on my computer as it is, I'll upload those. It was when people started using them, that I kinda got the stock bug, and after I'd done a couple of shoots. I really enjoyed them. And I still enjoy dressing up in all different manner of costumes, and I really love seeing what people can make of my stock. Sad but true ^^

2:How did you choose your username?
Well my actual online nickname is Feagaer, or Fea, so I originally tried to go for Feagaerstock, which it didn't let me do for some reason. (I think that was my old computer spazzing and dying) and I didn't want to go for Feastock because that's just too similar to Faestock, not that my stuff could ever be confused for hers. Tasá is one of my favourite RP characters, so I thought, nyeh, I'll go with that. At the time, I really didn't think that my stock would be that much of a hit or that I would get so many people using my stuff.

3:What is it about the stock community that keeps you active?
The artists. I luurve seeing what you guys can do with my stock, how some people can see such a different outcome to a particular image than some others. I love logging on and seeing "I used your stock here! link" And I watch way too many other stockers as well, just to see what else is out there and feel inadequate :P I guess I've just fallen in love with all the raw possibility of stock, even if I no longer have time to do my own art anymore, I still make time to provide raw materials for others.

4:How would you like your stock to be used more?
Gothic =D I love dark art and gothicy work. Anything gory, I love. But I also love the traditional works, as a traditional artist myself, I still love seeing paintings, pencilworks, pastelwork. But i do like my gothic stuff. More creepy stuff is needed, it's so fit.

5:Do you have any tips for people starting a stock account?
Don't worry about people moaning about little things when you've just started out. You always get better with practice. And if you can, get someone to take the photos for you, they turn out so much better that way, and you can avoid the cropping of hands/feet etc if you're going for a full-body shot. If not, a tripod is necessary. I got mine for £18, and they're also good if you find your photographer doesnt have as steady a hand as you might have hoped. :P
Other than that, you will be amazed at the possibilities a piece of fabric and some safety pins have. And don't compare yourself to the stockers who have been stocking for a while. (I had, and still have, a bad habit of that. :P)

6:Why chose to stock at DA and not morguefile/sxc/photlia/etc...
Umm mainly because I don't have an account on there.. although of course even if I did DA would be my preference. :P I've been on DA as a member for nearly 5 years now (not always stocking), I've grown rather comfortable here.

7:How far would you go to take a stock picture?
To the moon. That would make some awesome floaty stock, and some awesome brains-outside-of-skull stock too. But since that isn't possible.. Umm, as far as the number 9 bus will take me! Nah, as soon as I pass my driving test, the Uk is my oyster, I'm afraid until I win the lottery I'd only go somewhere in the UK for stock, in my little Nissan-micra of DEATH! ^^

8:Are there any things that you wish people would stop doing with your stock?
Drooling over my feet? It really creeps me out, the whole foot fetish thing. -__- but seriously? No, I don't have any major qualms about what people are doing with my stock.

9:Show me three of your favourite stock uses!
Only three? Damn..

hands by vayufox
Subterranean creatures by altergromit

10:Is there anyone at dA whose stock you particularly admire, or have any other stock artists influenced your own work?
I am jealous of several other stockers on DA. :p Nah there's loads whose work I love. In truth I can find a series or an image in every stocker's gallery and be like "wow", but I guess choosing everyone isn't an option..
damn, tough choice. well I've long been an admirer of faestock and Ahrum-Stock and the lovely MoFarrelly I've watched her for a while and I think if I was any good at photomanip her gallery would be my first stop for backgrounds and objects and animals, and well everything.
As for influence.. I really love the make up on Della-Stock's recent collab with larissa-stock and I think you can expect some very artsy make-up portrait stock from me soon.
If i was only meant to pick a couple, sorry I tried but failed. :P the stock here is too good just to pick a couple of stockers.

11:You have a lot of diversity in yout stock account - what are your favourite type of stock photos to take?
I try to have abit of diversity, and hopefulyl succeed. but I which stock I enjoy the most involves crazy costumes, and i love anythign slightly gothic or slightly domineering, like a queen out of some fantasy of sci-fi book. I think I enjoyed my Draga, Cinnamon Spider and Huntress shoots a little too much. especially the Draga ones, I so did not want to get changed, I'm kinda annoyed that the quality didn't come out right.

12:I see you're a UK deviant - is there anywhere you'd like to go to within the UK to take stock photos?
Several places. There's a particularly kick-ass cemetary down the road from my photographer Blakava-stock that we plan on going sometime soon. I don't have anywhere in particular planned, but as soon as I pass my driving test, I think the UK will be doomed with my stock trips. hopefully. :D

13:Fried eggs or boiled eggs?
Fried

... i talk too much -__-

 Thank you Tasastock!

Great interview! And Tasastock is great, I've been watching her for ages. As soon as I can find some of the software CDs I used to be tripping over when I didn't need them :disbelief: I'll start manipping some of her stuff. :)
